Fixing Minimum Pension for Provident Fund Subscribers

Fixing Minimum Pension for Provident Fund Subscribers

The Central Government had constituted an Expert Committee for reviewing the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS), 1995. The recommendations of the Expert Committee were placed before the Central Board of Trustees, Employees’ Provident Fund [CBT (EPF)] for consideration on 15th September, 2010. The CBT (EPF) directed that the report be first considered by the Pension Implementation Committee (PIC), a Sub-Committee of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). The PIC has since finalized its report and recommended that a minimum monthly pension under EPS, 1995 be increased to Rs.1000/- per month as an interim measure by enhancing the rate of contribution in the EPS, 1995 by 0.63%. The recommendations of the PIC was deliberated by the CBT (EPF) in its 197th and 198th Meetings held on 23rd December, 2011 and 22nd February, 2012, respectively. However, the deliberations have remained inconclusive and the Board has decided to defer the discussion.

This information was given by the Union Minister for Labour & Employment Shri Mallikarjun Kharge in reply to a written question in the Rajya Sabha today.

It is most unfortunate that government is not taking any initiative in implemention even the minimum pension of Rs. 1,000/- as recommended. But government is equally promot about MPs/MLAs pension and their enhancement/implementation. Government should implement minimum pension under EPS 1995 without any further delay as thousand of family are depending on pension and govenment is not bothered or paying any heed to it. Who is responsible

Why the Govt. is dilly-dallying such important things where the senior citizen are looking for. Everybody knows that the meagre pension given to Public Sector Retired employees is not even sufficient to have a one square meal per a day. How he will survive. Some retired employees are drawing even less than old age /widow pension. Why the Govt. want to belittle retired PSU employees.

When the question of granting pension to MLAs/MPs it is done on war-footing but the same spirit is not followed in EPF Pensioners case.

Let us all unit and fight for this through registered forum.

Enhancement of epf pension is being deferred, and it appears it may not be finalized son in view of adamant attitude of the industrialist and the present govt. is having no guts to impose the recommendation of expert committee. The pension obtained as per the 1995 pension scheme, is far below the various social security pension like age old , physically handicapped, Vidava pension of central, stat govt. No parliamentarian is fighting and taking up the cause of e. p. f pensioners seriously. The Karnataka govt is likely to enhance their M.LA. PENSIONS TO THE EXTENT OF 10,000. No enhancement in the near future for epf pensioners. Our cry for enhancement is inwildnernees. Thanks for indian democracy- GOPAL SHASTRY
