Railway Employees to Get 77 Day’s Wages as Productivity Linked Bonus for the Year 2009-10

The Union Cabinet has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Railways for payment of Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) to the Railway employees to the extent of 77 days’ wages for the financial year 2009-10. Approximately 12.92 lakh non-gazetted Group B, C and D employees are likely to benefit from this decision. This will be the highest PLB payment ever to be made by Railways. PLB is based on the productivity indices reflecting the performance of the Railways.

The financial implication of payment of 77 days’ PLB to railway employees has been estimated to be ` 1065.42 crore. The wage calculation ceiling prescribed for payment of PLB to the eligible non-gazetted railway employees (excluding RPF/RPSF personnel) is ` 3500/- per month.

  1. It is regret to say that the PLB is declared for 77 days, which is ridiculus as there is a ceiling of Rs.8860/- Max. Mentioning 77 days give other people a wrong conception that the railway people are getting 77 days bonus. they donot know about the ceiling amount. The media also reflecting by exagerrating the fact and ignoring the ceiling amount. Hence,declaring bonus with the maximum amount of ceiling is more acurate rather than declaring the bonus as 77 days.
